We’re the ONLY credit union chartered to serve the communities of Placentia and Yorba Linda exclusively!

We serve anyone who lives, works, or worships in the cities of Placentia and Yorba Linda AND their family members. We also serve those who donate to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Brea-Placentia-Yorba Linda and With Hope Foundation.

A Word from our CEO, Patricia White

One of Family 1’s strengths is, and has always been, our care and concern for members and their families. Our team of effective and dedicated employees share the philosophy that “we are always willing to work a little harder” to meet the challenges of both our members’ needs and the changing business environment. As a member-owned institution, we always remember that we are people helping people. Our whole philosophy of business is based on member service. We believe that our Credit Union values and our focus on top-notch member service make a winning combination.

The changes we have undertaken over the past three years have positioned us to make significant enhancements needed for phenomenal growth and prosperity. We look forward to the next five years with tremendous excitement! We will be significantly expanding our membership base, while we work to better meet the needs of our community.

Our History

Family 1 was chartered May 19, 1964 to serve the employees of Unocal Science and Technology located in Brea.
Changes in Unocal’s presence in California prompted Family 1 to move offsite in 1995 and seek a community charter to serve the communities of Placentia and Yorba Linda, CA. When the National Credit Union Administration accepted the change, Family 1 became the only credit union chartered to exclusively serve these two communities.



Membership in Family 1 is now open to anyone who lives, works, or worships in either the city of Placentia or Yorba Linda – or anyone who is related to someone who qualifies for membership. And, due to Family 1’s “once a member, always a member” policy, there remains a large concentration of current and former Unocal employees, and their families, in Family 1’s membership.
